Mike Vendetti

Mike Vendetti has been narrating audiobooks professionally since the early 2010s. He's recorded over twenty titles ranging from public-domain literature (Sinclair Lewis's Main Street, Burroughs's Tarzan and the Lost Empire, Faulkner's As I Lay Dying, the Sherlock Holmes canon, Beowulf) to contemporary fiction (Magnolia's Obsession, The Awakening, Feral Nation, Altered Course).

Before audiobooks, Mike spent thirty years as a professional auctioneer — a national fundraising bid-caller, a circuit board sales specialist, a tow-yard vehicle auctioneer in San Jose. The through-line between auctioneering and audiobook narration is the same skill: living in a voice that holds a room.

How Booth Ready started

In 2025 Mike was deep into a contemporary fiction series where the author expected perfection. Not "professional quality" — perfection. Every character name pronounced consistently. Every line delivered as written. No skipped clauses, no improvised filler.

To keep that gig, Mike built two tools for his own booth. The first turned the manuscript into a production-grade prep pack overnight — character sheets, pronunciation guides, complexity reports. He called it Booth Ready because that's what it produced: a narrator who walked into the booth ready. The second tool listened to the recorded audio, compared it line-by-line against the script, and beeped on the audio every time the read drifted. He called it Proof Ready because that's what it produced: audio that was ready for the rights-holder's proofing pass — already done.

Other narrators saw the marked audio files. Authors asked what tool he was using. The private workflow became a product line. Booth Ready Productions is what those tools became.

What we believe

• The rights-holder is the proofreader. ACX checks technical specs. Audible doesn't check the script. The author reads every word. Build tools that take work off his plate.
• You can't proof what felt right. The mistakes that survive a take are the ones that sounded fine when the narrator said them. That's a missing-person problem, not a craft problem.
• Solo studios deserve studio tools. The era of "home audio is good enough, prep and proofing are luxuries" is over. The home booth has caught up. The pre-production and post-production catch up next.
• Ship for narrators, not for investors. Every feature in every Booth Ready Productions tool was first used by a working narrator on a paying job. If it didn't survive the booth, it didn't ship.
